Get Mortgage In My Name After Husbands Death

May 8, 2019 by Rick Landuyt Leave a Comment

Q: My husband and I have a house with a mortgage. We refinanced in June 2007, and the mortgage was changed to be in his name only and the deed remained in both our names. My husband died in September 2007. Is it possible for me to refinance or have the mortgage changed into my name? My only income is my Survivors’ Annuity.

A: I believe that it is possible for you to refinance in just your name. You might, however, need to do some ‘juggling’ of the title / deed. Contact your Attorney or a local Title company for the complete process & list of things / costs you would need to do.
